Santorini to the rescue.
I was about to generalise and say that Greece has bad food, rude people and bad service but all that changed yesterday when I went to Santorini.
The story so far -
At the hostel in Athens I bought a ticket on a large ferry that goes to the Greek islands. My destination, Santorini. You see photos of Santorini everywhere. We even had them in our livingroom in Brisbane many years ago. The whitewashed...

Fast cars and dirty streets.
Saturday and Sunday 31st May and 1st June. Working on the outskirts of Athens at a rundown air force base, sitting in a trailer with bad aircon and editing cars racing. Woo Hoo! It is strange here as it’s the media HQ but also gets spectators coming to see their favourite drivers and cars being worked on. I’m not a big rally car fan… ok, I’m not a fan at all. The setup here...

F. Harry’s toe and T.A. withdrawls.
Greetings from Athens. I’ll get to F. Harry’s toe soon. It’s Monday the 2nd June and I have a lot to catch up on from the last few days. This may be a long one folks. Hang in there.
Let’s start with the 28th May, the day I left Tel Aviv for Athens, Greece. My flight wasn’t untill 6pm but I got there at 2pm as El Al likes to ask a lot of invasive questions, followed by...

Off to Greece!
Wow! I’ve been in Israel for well over a month and a half now and boy has that time been eventful and most satisfying. Israel has really grabbed my by my love glands and squeezed tight. The sort of embrace reserved for a father to a son, a mother to a daughter, a Thai kickboxer to his smaller, bloodied opponent in a desperate hug of mercy.
I leave tomorrow for Greece for 2 weeks. The first 5...

Taste of the City Food Festival.
Monday 26th May. The Ta’am Ha’Ir (Taste of the City in Hebrew) festival is on. Only just having heard about this from Tal my thoughts are of small food stalls along the riverside and a few hundred people casually walking around sampling tasty treats from Tel Aviv’s wonderful restaurants, sipping on some nice wines and perhaps listening to some cool jazz. Maybe I’m thinking of Ambiwera...

Elahn stars in hot video!!!
First it was my sister Eli’s turn to be in a video clip. Now I get my shot having been in the right place at the right time for this video clip for a nightclub in Tel Aviv. You can see me sitting to the right of the guy at the cafe. Notice the brilliant method acting and precise continuity. Years of training paid off!

A blessing for “Occy” Lewis.
Sunday 25th May. Went back to Jerusalem today to get the balance of my pay from the ABC for the editing work I did a few weeks ago. Once I got my Shekels I took a bus to Yad Vashem on Jerusalems outskirts.
From their website -
Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, is the Jewish people’s memorial to the murdered Six Million and symbolizes the ongoing confrontation with the rupture engendered by the Holocaust. Containing...

Walk with Aunty II.
Another visit to Aunty. Another walk around the park. Another opportunity to take some photos. Enjoy.
Aunty’s apartment.
The Grey Mafia.
Notice how everyone gets out of their way.
No tree, pole, bench or curb is safe from Chappy.
Chappy’s female friend.
Chappy takes a break and waits for Aunty to catch up.
I do my Mork from Ork.

Nahalat Binyamin Markets.
Tuesday 20th May. My friend Ilana told me about a great arts and crafts market that happens on Tuesdays and Fridays. The conditions are that stall owners can only sell wares that they themselves make, it has to be handmade and the makers of the goods must be there themselves to sell it. Anything made overseas or mass produced will be kicked out. Sounded like a good place to go to find some original...

Israeli and Jewish music.
This post takes a break from my rants and raves to kick off the shoes of touristic travels and tantalise your earbuds with the sounds of Israel. I hope this works as I’ve found a website that allows you to put music on your website so let me know if it doesn’t work.
Firstly a song that I remember my mother used to sing in the Brisbane Shir Li Choir. It’s called Jerusalem of Gold....

Soy Chicken.
Having been in Israel for over a month and a half now I’m missing foods other than hummus, felafel and anything else middle eastern. Craving a good asian meal I decided to prepare the Zetlin famous soy chicken. I had a fear that I would not be able to find dark soy sauce, after all, they don’t creamed corn here, nor lemon lime and bitters in bars. Luckily there is a few asian stores in...
