The best hummus in the world comes from Yafo in Israel.

While in Israel in 2008 Leon took me to Yafo and the best hummus I’ve ever had.

Cold Melbourne here I come!

3 months after leaving Australia I have returned to cold and grey Melbourne! Awesome! Hong Kong humidity behind me I said my farewells to Jacob and chicken feet and boarded a Cathy Pacific plane for a 9 hour flight home. Sad me on the plane. Narrow seats and a large armed passenger sitting next to me. Dang! The flight gave me time to gather my thoughts and take in the wonderful time I’ve had over [...]

More Hong Kong fong… I mean fun.

Ah…cloudy, rainy, hot and humid Hong Kong. So fun sweating my shirts 30 seconds out the front door. I love it. Really do. NOT! The food here is great. There is so much variety as long as you like Chinese food or anything else from Asia that makes use of the whole animal. You pick. Fish? Eat fish head soup. Like chicken? Then you can at least try chicken livers, necks and feet. I love [...]

Hong Kong Synagogue and hot dogs.

Walked up to one of 8 Synagogues in Hong Kong today. Wanted to see it although it’s Saturday and would be shut after this morning’s service. Still, it was a nice day – only raining slightly and was only 95% humidity – and it was of great interest to me. Arriving at the Synagogue I took this photo – Just after I took the photo a security guard came up to me. This is the [...]

Mongkok markets.

I’d thought I’d seen it all when it comes to supersized shopping malls, retail outlet factories and basement bargains, but the shopping area of Mongkok takes the cake for looking most like Las Vegas for retail therapy. Getting to Mongkok is a simple train ride from Hong Kong. The MTR system is bloody brilliant and each station is huge, clean, well designed and easy to get in and out of. In Mongkok there are several [...]

Crazy Kong.

Writing this post from Jacobs apartment in downtown Hong Kong. Outside it’s raining, windy, humid and hot. Jacob, like me, goes through several shirts a day due to them getting soaked in sweat, usually his own, sometimes from spitting locals. Mostly the Hong Kongians are friendly, sociable, honest and sincere. Everywhere I’ve been, in every restaurant and shop they are very welcoming, not too loud (like those Israelis!) and are surprised that a “round eye” [...]

Welcome to HK.

Sunday 22nd June. Leaving Israel was somewhat sad. Arriving at Ben Gurion Airport 5 hours early gave me enough time to check in, make sure I got my aisle seat (this time at the back of the plane) and wait for 4 hours at the boarding gate. Jee I’m a fussy person when it comes to flying. At the check in I was told that the flight was overbooked but I had a seat but [...]

Pork buns here I come!!!

It’s my last day in Israel and tomorrow I fly to Hong Kong for a week. It’s been an awesome time here in Israel, as well as the surprise work trip to Greece and Turkey. I’ve seen a lot of Israel, met a lot of people, tasted a lot of food (a lot!!!) and got a tan. Won’t I look out of place back home! Today going to the beach for a swim, a coffee [...]

Some video clips.

This first clip was taken at Cafe Del Mar in Fira, Santorini. At about 8.30pm – 9pm the sun sinks slowly to the west over the volcano. Anywhere around the caldera is a great place to watch the sunset. At Cafe Del Mar the cool breeze, drink in hand and chilled out tunes makes the experience blissful. The next clip was also taken on Santorini one night. These freakish looking puppet toys are displayed outside [...]

More Magical Mykonos.

I’m really getting behind here so will have to hurry up with the updates. Here’s more from Mykonos. Monday 9th June. In the evening Sarp and I set out to get a good feed followed by some socialising with the natives. The narrow streets are filled with people at cafes, restaurants, shops, bars and clubs. Any place with the a tv was tuned to the soccer. The Greeks love their figurines with erections. Notice the [...]

Santorini to Mykonos.

Monday 9th June. After the sunset to rule them all last night Sarp and I agreed to team up as travel buddies and go to Mykonos, another Greek Island famous for being a party island as well as the arch rival in the trans Greek Island ping pong tournament. The port in Santorini. Waiting for our highspeed dingy to take us on the 4 hour ride to Mykonos. See larger. Sarp does a three way [...]

Santorini part 2.

Saturday 7th June. Santorini morning provides a nice cool breeze, chirping birds and breakfast in the hostel. You have to cook your own egg and “bacon” is really a slice of processed ham, but sitting around a pool on a noice Island makes up for it. Kidding about the egg though, you eat it raw.
