Santorini to Mykonos.

Monday 9th June. After the sunset to rule them all last night Sarp and I agreed to team up as travel buddies and go to Mykonos, another Greek Island famous for being a party island as well as the arch rival in the trans Greek Island ping pong tournament.

On board the ferry several hundred passangers sit enclosed indoors as there are no outside areas on the boat. Luggage is stored outside though and the infrequently lost bag slipping off the back is a worry. Inside passengers are entertained with large tv’s showing Greek news, snack bars selling crusty rolls and crappy coffee, and American students complaining loudly that there is no Starbucks onboard.

When we arrive at Mykonos we are greeted by a throng of hungry apartment owners eager for us to stay in their abodes. Prices and levels of comfort vary but Sarp and I approach the first good looking woman we see and take her offer of staying at her apartment for rent. She drives us to the place which is in the main town centre. The room has 3 single beds, a couch, aircon, tv and bathroom and is only a 2 minute walk from all the Mykonos action.

Sarp mentions a beach nearby worth checking out. The name – Paradise Beach. Sounds good so we get a bus there. I ask the driver for “two tickets to Paradise” while singing the tune. It goes over his head like a seagul on heat.

At Paradise beach numerous bars pump out loud dance music while the sandy beach is populated with young good looking boys and girls dancing, drinking and sunbathing while a few dare the cool crystal clear waters.

In the early evening it gets a little chilly so most of the beach goers pack it up and have a rest before heading out for the night. More soon.
