Santorini part 2.
Saturday 7th June. Santorini morning provides a nice cool breeze, chirping birds and breakfast in the hostel.
You have to cook your own egg and “bacon” is really a slice of processed ham, but sitting around a pool on a noice Island makes up for it. Kidding about the egg though, you eat it raw.
Once done I head back on the road on the quadbike, heading to the south east part of the island and a place called Perissa which has a nice beach of black sand and pebbles. The trip takes a while as I stop at every photo opportunity.
Cruise ships and ferries frequent the caldera and ports dropping off and picking up tourists, used donkeys and sex criminals.
Probably the worst place for a phonebooth. How you are meant to talk when looking out over a sight like this.
Santo Winery. Spectacular view and nice locally made wines. At sunset a great spot.
Perisaa beach. The black sand makes it very hot to walk without footwear. The lack of changerooms means finding a secluded spot behind a rock to change. Old men watching you change costs more.
The smooth round pebbles would be fishtank worthy or even mum’s backyard.
A nice place for a beer or back wax.
One place I didn’t go to. Shame, as I hear they serve some good surf and spew.
A drive in church. 2 wheels 10 hail mary’s. 4 wheels 20 hail marry’s. Donkey 40 hail marry’s.
Red beach, so named for the red rock, stones, sand and skin colour of silly tourists after a day in the sun.
After a hard morning of swimming and lazing watermelon by the waterfront and taking photos of you doing it is in order.
Roadside stalls selling locally produced wine, olives and other tasty treats are numerous. I bought some sweet wine which is almost like kiddish wine and serves quite a kick. I asked how much for their daughter but was chased away with bottles thrown at me. Good way to get a free bottle or two if you can catch them while driving a quadbike.
After my swim I rode back up through a small village and stopped for lunch. Sitting in this quiet family run restaurant and hearing the chirping of caged canaries (I hope wasn’t on the menu), looking up at the grapevines spread overhead.

My tastebuds are thanking me for the food in Santorini. It’s kicks Athens ass for quality and flavour. In fact all my senses are lit up being here.

I give Santorini 2 thumbs up! Aaaaaay!
The highest point on the island is about 550 metres above sea level and an awesome view of the whole island. There is a monestary and army base at the top.

The mountain top is great for meditating and taking in the serenity. Ah…the serenity!
Coming back to the hostel I offered to share my bottle of wine and olives as the sun set.
Saturday evening I went for a walk around Fira, the main town of Santorini. It’s not quite peak season yet but what people were out were enjoying dining and drinking with wonderful evening views overlooking the caldera.

Fresh fish on one side of the pathway and the kitchen on the other. See larger.
For all your beasts of burden needs.
Sunday 8th June. Morning. More of the same. Breakfast, quadbiking, enjoying the sights.
Breakfast cat. Feed him or he claws your testicles.
Catching up with Sarp for breakfast part 2, a Giros.
A great place to build a house. Look at that view!

Back in Fira enjoying a fruit juice.

Another outdoor cinema showing such greats as “How I loved a hairy woman” and “The Plate Smasher trilogy”.
Enjoying a glass of Vinsanto with the sun setting over the volcano.
When you sit down at Santo Winery you have to peak through the lattice. Not happy! So I go find a better view for the sunset.
And I find it back in Fira at Cafe Del Mar. Spectacular. See Larger.
