Nahalat Binyamin Markets.
Tuesday 20th May. My friend Ilana told me about a great arts and crafts market that happens on Tuesdays and Fridays. The conditions are that stall owners can only sell wares that they themselves make, it has to be handmade and the makers of the goods must be there themselves to sell it. Anything made overseas or mass produced will be kicked out. Sounded like a good place to go to find some original gifts to take back home.
Ilana and I started out the day with a breakfast Shakshooka. Shakshooka is a dish made from tomatoes and egg, served hot with loads of pita bread to soak up the wonderful spicey sauce. Here is a recipe.

We then headed off to the markets where Ilana showed me various stalls she loved. It was great to see so much creative art. There is a lot of jewellry here, as well as Judaica, glassware, shabby chic and pop art.
Ilana moves fast to snap up a bargain. See larger.
Ozzie Turtils long lost brother Moshe?

Ilana eats a fridge magnet pastry. Says she was drawn to it.
There is more original and creative arts and crafts here than I’ve seen in St Kilda or Fortitude Valley.

Ilana has a glass shaped heart pendant that broke so she took it to this guy who makes glass figurines to get fixed. Watching him melt and bend glass is hypnotic.

The dance of the ‘Bad Credit Shopper’. We will takes these from you.
Bling.
Blang.

Ilana tries on some platform shoes. Almost makes her as tall as me.
