Week two kickoff…

I can’t believe we’ve been here for a week. It feels like ages ago we got here…at the most 7 days! Probably due to all the looking about and walking everywhere time goes slowly. Hummus does that to you…makes… you… slow… eh?

Speaks for itself really.

My feet really are hurting, especially my left foot. I have a blister, my ankle is stiff, my right knee pinches and my legs are really really white and scare people when I wear shorts. For those a bit squeemish you may want to skip the next picture.

Will give you nightmares it will!

Yesterday, Tuesday the 15th, mum and I took a bus up to Netanya to visit my cousins and see the town where mum grew up. The last time I visited was almost 22 years ago. Needless to say, the town was in awe that anyone who left Netanya wasn’t actually taken by space aliens, they just moved to Brisbane.

Yes, I haven’t shaved and am starting to wear more middle eastern attire. Out comes the Uzi next.

Netanya is about 30 minutes away by bus. It’s like going from Brisbane to Logan, less the bogans.
From the central bus station we walked down to the mall near the beach, passing locations mum remembers from growing up. Here she used to loiter, smoke and drink on a Saturday night.

The sun was out in full and if you didn’t put the 30+ on you stood the chance of cooking.

Some local street buskers ignore the UV warnings.

Random cat of the day. I call this one Shitsmell.

While mum wasn’t watching I snook down to the beach where I finally dipped my toes into the Meditteranean.

Mum grew up in an apartment with her mother, father, grandmother and sister. Surrounding the apartment block were sand dunes and a lot of sand. Over the years urban sprawn, redevelopment and the Gold Coast virus were all to blame for the new buildings that took over.

I’m really tired so will continue the trip to Netanya in the next blog. Thanks also to all that have left comments and emails. Great to know you find all this interesting to read.
