Catching up with Francene

Tuesday 29th April. The swim at the Dead Sea was amazing, and once it became too busy I packed up and headed to the road to await the bus to Jerusalem. Rating 3.00 out of 5 [?]

Dead Sea trip

Tuesday 29th April. Waking up in Be’er Sheva after a good sleep in I checked out of the Golden Tulip and walked up to the bus station to get a bus to Ein Gedi on the shores of the Dead Sea. Doing some research online I found a website telling me all about the area. I was especially interested in their overly confident marketing hype. I’ve never seen so much sun! Rating 3.00...

Guy Levy

Guy Levi is the son of my mums friend from school Etty. He’s a very talented musician. Last night, Saturday, he had a performance in a basement bar showcasing songs he wrote. He’s the only lead singer who plays the double bass I’ve ever met. If anyone can find me another I’ll give you my left over matzot! The music was a mix of modern ballads, lovesongs, a little rock and...

Friday night dinner with aunty

Mum left for home on Thursday and I think it was hard for her to say goodbye to aunty Alla. I was sad she went home. I wished she stayed longer. Friday night I went to Aunty’s for dinner. Valia, her carer, prepared an excellent meal from recipes mum gave her. She did really well mum, if you’re reading! Chicken soup with matzoh balls, mashed potatoes, chicken stirfry, it was great. Aunty...

Kosher le Pasach

It’s the last day of Passover which means a welcome sigh of backside relief from matzoh eaters. This bland cardboard like “bread” is eaten for 8 days in place of levened break, representative of the Israelites not having time to add yeast to their bread as they were leaving Egypt. For dang sake! Always remember the yeast when you’re in a hurry! Take the yeast and the photo albums…and...

Behind the blogging scenes

A lot of you have been curious about where I do my blogging from. When do I have the time given I appear to be a social mammoth, always out, the rest of the time sleeping. You have to love the fact that there is WiFi everywhere here and most connections are unprotected. In cafes it is free. So this is me at work - One coffee and one ipod touch. Rating 3.00 out of 5 [?]

When in Rome…

Wednesday evening, having finished the editing at the ABC I met up with Tal in a popular nightlife area on Ben Yehuda Mall. The strip was busy with families on holidays, every cafe with outdoor seating was filled even though the outside temperature was around 30 humid degrees. I love walking around these areas where a side alley leads to more restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Numerous Judaica shops...

Missing cat poster of the week photo

Oh dear, your cat is missing? Have you checked the pound? No? Perhaps because you don’t have a pound? All lost cats live on the streets, getting high on catnip, screwing around with other slinky minxes, breeding half casts, mongrel and feral offspring. Oh yeah, your cat’s gone now lady. Gone and never coming home. Rating 3.00 out of 5 [?]

ABC Holyland

Wednesday the 23rd April. Took the bus to Jerusalem today as I managed to get myself some editing work at the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). I asked Craig Berkman in Brisbane for a contact as he worked here at one time. The office is manned by about 3 or 4 guys in the JCS Building on Jaffa Rd (Jerusalem Central Studios). The building is a smorgasbord of news network opportunities –...

Big thanks go to…

I have to take this opportunity to thank my brother-in-law Russell Lewis who is kindly hosting my website from his own server. I know these sorts of things cost money but instead I offered him my sister Dana to marry and have kids with. Deal, he said. Thanks Russ. Russ and Dana celebrate my using Russells server for free!
